The ink absorber requires the replacement when it is full. However, it cannot be replaced by yourself.

WebJun 15, 2011 · Resetting the waste ink absorber on a Canon printer can resolve some error codes that appear when turning it on. Make sure the printer is turned off. Press and hold the Resume button (triangle inside a circle). Whilst it is held down, hold down the Power button. The green led light should come on. Keep the Power button held down. WebDetach the waste ink absorber by pulling gently on its rubber frame. Pull it away from the printer to remove it completely. Unplug the printer to prevent mishaps. Remove the foam pads and place them in a bucket of hot, soapy water. Let them soak long enough for the ink to get loose.
