Bonus points: build stairs and a tunnel so you can stock it underground, then have a drawbridge to lock the traders in a secure airlock.

WebIf your civilization is struggling (e.g. they are losing/lost a war, or the civ population is low for any other reason) then you can go years without a caravan or migrants. Use the "D" command to display access to the trade depot, remove (or work around) any obstacle found, repeat, until you finally get a clear path to the edge.
